Hydroponic Growing Guides
Setup guides and growing advice
We have not started a blog. What we have written instead sits on the pages it belongs to, where you will actually be reading it when the question comes up. Here is where to find it.
Choosing a system
How nutrient film technique works covers the flowing method, why the channel is closed, why NFT depends on its pump, and which of the two NFT kits suits which situation.
The deep water culture guide covers the other method: roots in aerated solution, nothing flowing, and why the air pump is the part that matters.
Setting one up
What a hydroponic setup actually needs goes through the system, the light, the propagator and the tent, and is clear about what comes in a kit and what you buy separately.
Starting seeds covers propagation: why a dome has vents, what damping off is, and how a seedling moves from a tray into a system.
Lighting a grow covers distance, hours per day, why strips beat a single panel, and why the aluminium body is doing a job.
Being honest about it
Two things get claimed for hydroponics that we will not claim.
Hydroponic produce cannot be certified organic in the European Union. Regulation (EU) 2018/848 requires organic crops to be grown in soil, and soilless growing sits outside the scheme. Nutrient solutions marketed as organic exist and can be used; the produce still cannot carry the label.
And a growing system does not change how nutritious the food is. What it does is put the plant a few steps from your kitchen, so you cut it and eat it the same day. That is a smaller claim and a true one.
